It all started at Bell Labs
On Dec. 16, the transistor will turn 60. It was born at Bell Labs with the first on assembled in 1947. It was called a point contact transistor because amplification or transistor action occurred when two pointed metal contacts were pressed onto the surface of the semiconductor material.
