Hoodoos
Hoodoos, or pillars of rock caused by erosion, are one of the most picturesque features of Bryce Canyon National Park. As the Colorado Plateau--the region of uplift that covers Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona--eroded, specific parts formed as so-called "fins," which are harder rock that survive debris runoff. As cracks form from freezing water expanding in the fins' cracks, layers are peeled off, forming the hoodoos.
