The roof of Genzyme Center has several weather stations that track the temperature, wind speed, air pressure and the intensity of light. That information is sent to a computer board that controls movement of the blinds inside the building and air circulation. The building's air handlers are set to work at a low speed and ensure that the building has 20 percent outside air, according to Capozzi.
That low-speed, constant airflow throughout the building means that the temperature can be set higher than most buildings. Capozzi said that initially the company thought it would set the temperature at 68 degrees but found that it can run it at 74 degrees comfortably year-round.
