Vudu
Santa Clara, Calif.-based start-up Vudu last week unveiled the latest entry in the entertainment niche known as Internet-based video download boxes. To get the sleek black box and even sleeker remote, you'll have to fork over $399. To get movies from Vudu, prices range from $1 to $4 to rent and $5 to $20 to own.

The bottom line from CNET's review of Vudu: "Steering clear of many of the pitfalls that sapped past video-on-demand broadband solutions, Vudu delivers the closest thing to 'Netflix in a box' that we've seen to date."
