Dexter
The Showtime drama Dexter might be a dark comedy about a good-looking serial killer, but apparently not everyone thinks jokes about serial killers are particularly funny.

As a promotion for the second season of Dexter, which premiered in the fall of 2007, the Showtime-run Web site sliceoflifetv.com encouraged fans to send their friends "a personalized video news report claiming that (they) are next on Dexter's hit list." Some people didn't think it was particularly cute. According to reports, the campaign has gotten complaints from users who think it's distasteful for an advertising campaign to make them feel like a serial killer is after them.

There is, notably, some fine print on the site: "The content is purely fictional and not everyone will appreciate receiving the Dexter Treatment. Please be careful to send it only to those who will enjoy it."
