Making hydrogen from water for fuel cells is a long-held goal of proponents for hydrogen as a fuel. Quantum Dynamics is a company that has developed a process for separating hydrogen and oxygen from water by passing the water through an electrical field. The company demonstrated the processes at the Clean Energy Conference in Boston. Using DC power, it separates hydrogen and oxygen from water.
With AC power, the process creates hot water, which can be used for heating. The company intends to license the technology, according to its executives.
