Toyota introduced its Toyota Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle (FCHV) concept vehicle with the proud assertion that the car has already proven its toughness by trekking across Alaska. (Hope it has seat warmers.)
The hydrogen fuel cell vehicle was driven 2,300 miles from Fairbanks, Alaska to Vancouver, B.C. along the Alaska-Canadian highway. Since hydrogen filling stations are not commonplace along the route (or anywhere yet for that matter), the car was followed by a fuel truck and was fueled up as needed. One of the reasons Toyota was forced to test the car's performance where it did is that Canada is one of the few countries that allows vehicles to refuel with high-pressure hydrogen on the side of the highway, according to Toyota.
