Washed coal from a mine in Ohio. The U.S. has more coal deposits than any other nation on Earth with 26.8 billion tons, followed by Russia, China, and India. Approximately 998 billion tons of recoverable coal sits underground, according to a 2006 estimate from the International Energy Agency. Unfortunately, it has to be dug out of the ground.
