One of the major problems in burning coal comes from air pollution. Here is a photo taken from a hotel room in Beijing in the spring. It was morning, but the photo clearly shows that the sun was up. The windows were not tinted. A lot of the air pollution in Beijing is caused by cars, but coal fumes float in from the outlying factory districts.
