Skin cell
Researchers from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory have developed an an advanced microscopy technique called cryo-electron tomography to produce the best closeup of human tissue. Scientists will now be able to see details as small as a few millionths of a meter.

The 3-D model of a human skin cell (left) was produced by electron tomography. For this process, cells are frozen in their natural state, then examined under an electron microscope. Scientists are primarily interested in the regions of cell-to-cell contact.
