LC-130 in Antarctica
To land in a place like Antarctica, the C-130 dons skis and uses an ice runway. While larger C-17s bring large cargo loads from New Zealand to the frozen continent, the LC-130 based at McMurdo Station flies smaller loads to outlying research posts. The Air Force's Operation Deep Freeze supports the National Science Foundation and U.S. Antarctic Program.

C-130 = Super Spooky?
IIRC, before the end of the Vietnam fiasco the C-130 gunships were flying although they weren't nearly as potent or as accurate as what flies today. This would have been in the '68 period. The old AC-... (Read the rest)
