C-130 cockpit from 1993
Mechanical gauges long held sway in the cockpits of C-130s, beginning with their entry into service in 1956 (the A model). This plane was flying an airdrop mission en route to Bosnia in May 1993.

The aircraft, made by Lockheed Martin, measures 97 feet, 9 inches long, with a wingspan of 132 feet, 7 inches. The H model flies up to about 366 miles per hour at about 20,000 feet, while the J model hits 417 mph. With the maximum allowable payload of 42,000 pounds, the H has a ceiling of 23,000 feet, and the J, 28,000. (The maximum normal payload is 3 to 4 tons less than that.) The C-130J has a range of up to about 2,000 miles, quite a bit more than the C-130H's 1,200 to 1,500 miles.
