Updates in the C-130J aren't limited to the cockpit. The J models also feature six blades on the propellers (now made with carbon fibers, as are the flaps), compared with four blades on earlier models. The four engines are now 4,700-horsepower Rolls-Royce AE 2100D3 turboprops, a change from the earlier Allison turboprops.

The price tag for each plane? Somewhere in the mid-$60 million range. The C-130 is now also the first military aircraft to have achieved certification from the Federal Aviation Administration for civilian use, according to a Lockheed spokesman.

C-130 = Super Spooky?
IIRC, before the end of the Vietnam fiasco the C-130 gunships were flying although they weren't nearly as potent or as accurate as what flies today. This would have been in the '68 period. The old AC-... (Read the rest)
