In these two images also taken on August 2, 2005, Mercury Dual Imaging System's wide-angle camera showed off its capabilities. The three-band composite at left is very close to the image that would be seen by the human eye. For the image on the right, a red component was substituted and picks up near infra-red colors. As you can see, the tests were extremely successful.
