Hasan Elahi's installation, "Tracking Transience: The Orwell Project," evolved out of his experience being erroneously reported as a terrorist and the resulting FBI investigation. According to submitted materials, Elahi decided to voluntarily develop a network device that generates a database of imagery and locative information which, via the Web, tracks him and his points of transit in real time.
The FBI agent assigned to investigate him--along with the rest of the world--has since been able to track him online. The video installation is created from the thousands of images captured and compiled by his mobile network device, as shown here.
