In the early 1960s, rocket scientist Wernher von Braun shows off a Saturn rocket replica to President John F. Kennedy. At the end of World War II, von Braun, the "father of German rocket science," surrendered to the United States and began working for the Army Ballistic Missile Agency until 1957 when he teamed with JPL engineers on the successful launch of Explorer 1.
