The surface of Titan is known to contain lakes as large as the Great Lakes in the United States. Lakes on the Saturn moon, which is larger than the planet Mercury, are filled with liquid methane and ethane--several dozen of which contain more hydrocarbon liquid than Earth's oil and gas reserves.
Scientists hope to find that some of the chemical compounds that preceded life on Earth are frozen on the surface of Titan.
