Safety rules also call for a five-point safety harness, even though Eco-marathon competitions aren't known for high speeds or rollovers. Vehicles also must be equipped with an authorized horn and a rear-view mirror on each side.
Drivers must weigh at least 50 kilograms (110 pounds) in full driving gear, which includes helmet and flame-retardant racing suit. The maximum vehicle weight, without the driver, is 160 kilograms.
