The self-tuning system isn't made by Gibson, but is licensed from Tronical, a German electrical-engineering company. Here, one piece of the system is shown. On the back of the tailpiece is a tiny circuit board. To make the guitar look and feel like a standard instrument Gibson took pains to hide the electronics. It uses the strings to run from the circuit board up to the headstock to communicate when the guitar needs to tune itself.
