Ember is a company that has developed a Zigbee-based wireless mesh networking card and software. The company is starting to get customers that build products for home automation and smart grid meters . The Alertme product, for example, uses sensors (the white devices) to alert people if an alarm goes off--or even if a door opens. The information is transmitted to the white base station. For example, energy-related applications can give people signals from their electricity meters that the price for power has just gone up, which could prompt them to turn off appliances.
