The photo of this Earthrise from the moon was taken from Apollo 8 whose crew of Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, and Bill Anders were the first humans to journey to the moon. This photo inspired environmentalist groups, particularly in the 1960s and 1970s.
Actually, the Earth never rises on the moon since the same side of the moon always faces the Earth. The orbiting capsule created the appearance of an Earthrise.
