The so-called crawler is a 20-foot-high, 131-foot-long and 114-foot-wide transporter used to move a space shuttle mounted on a mobile launching platform from the Vehicle Assembly Building to the launching pad. The crawler weighs 6 million pounds and moves--when loaded--at 1 mile per hour. It has two 2,750-horsepower diesel engines.
