As part of Road Trip 2008, CNET News.com reporter Daniel Terdiman spent a day at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where he got behind-the-scenes tours of a series of NASA facilities.

Among them was the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB), one of the tallest buildings in the state. The space shuttles are built there, as are the Saturn V rocket and others. Here, the tip of a space shuttle booster sits in a corner of the VAB, where it awaits being assembled into what is known as the "stack," or the full set of components for a Shuttle launch.
