Mitch Altman created TV-B-Gone, a universal remote that shuts TV screens off from a distance. It managed to create quite a stir at CES earlier this year. He gave microcontroller workshops at Last HOPE showing how to use a kit to make a TV-B-Gone device and a Brain Wave Generator device.
