The last of 1,746 superconducting magnets is lowered into the LHC tunnel via a specially constructed pit in April 2007. This 50-feet long dipole magnet is one of 1,232 dipoles positioned around the LHC. Dipole magnets produce a magnetic field that bends the particle beams around the circular accelerator.
