Detail
More rudimentary surveys of the bay's seafloor have been conducted in the past. What is remarkable about this research is the amount of detail that can now be shown. Advanced multibeam sonar systems used during this project allowed scientists to record depths with a resolution of a few centimeters. The new system also enables imaging of over a million depth points in the space of one square kilometer, as well as recording 3,000 soundings per second.
