New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson was carted around the event with security people after speaking to the audience. Richardson boasted about the state's burgeoning role in space tourism with a Federal Aviation Administration-approved space airport, or spaceport, under development, and a new NASCAR-inspired Rocket Racing League based here.
"We're turning a corner (in space exploration), and New Mexico is at the center of it," said Richardson. "It means jobs, economic development and new technology."
