Mars rover Spirit celebrates its 1,000 sol or Martian day on the Red Planet by finishing a panoramic from the location where it has rested since April 2006. A Martian day is 24 hours, 39 minutes, 35 seconds. Spirit's original mission was planned for 90 sols.
The "McMurdo" panorama consists of 1,449 images taken from Spirit's winter home. The image shows volcanic rocks around the rover, "Husband Hill" on the right, the "El Dorado" sand dunes near the hill and "Home Plate" below the dunes. Also, two rocks, right of center, are believed to be meteorites.
