Schwartz, Otellini
Sun Microsystems and Intel have entered into an alliance that gives a boost to Intel's Xeon processors and Sun's Solaris operating system. The CEOs of the two companies--Sun's Jonathan Schwartz (left) and Intel's Paul Otellini--announced the deal Monday in San Francisco.

Under the agreement, Sun is committing to use Xeon in a range of single-processor and multiprocessor servers. In turn, Intel says it is embracing Solaris along with Sun's Java and NetBeans software.
