Bush speaks to DuPont employees
Bush also spoke to more than 1,000 DuPont employees about his energy initiatives, with topics ranging from "clean coal" for homes to hydrogen-powered cars. On the topic of ethanol, he said that the next five years would see a dramatic increase in the amount of that fuel produced, but acknowledged constraints on that production: "We've got hog growers and chicken growers that need corn to feed their animals. And therefore, it's going to be kind of a strain, at some point in time, on the capacity for us to have enough ethanol to be able to make us less dependent on oil."

Then he gave a plug for the next phase of research. "I came wondering whether or not cellulosic ethanol was one of these things down the road that may be happening, may not, could end up being science or science fiction," he said, according to the White House transcript of his DuPont speech. "It's going to be science. It's working."
