In 2002, Microsoft got into hot water with New York City for butterfly decals that were plastered on phone booth, subway posts and traffic poles downtown as part of a promotional campaign for the launch of MSN 8.

The city's department of transportation ordered the company to remove the decals after receiving about a dozen phone calls from people complaining about them.
