In this 1965 photo, Gagarin received a hero's welcome from Gemini 4 astronauts Ed White and James McDivitt at the Paris International Air Show. The Americans could give Gagarin his due as the U.S. had surpassed the Soviet space program by this time.
Gagarin died in an airplane crash in 1968.
