LAS VEGAS--To win ratings in today's hypercompetitive media environment, TV news stations are thinking like home buyers: location, location, location.

Wherever the news is, broadcasters are trying to take the viewer there--even if it means filming a rescue scene in a rocky wilderness area or an accident on an iced-over road, said Jeff "JD" Daubert, a sales representative for RF Central, which makes wireless camera and broadcasting systems.

Carlisle, Pa.-based RF Central displayed an all-terrain vehicle that's part tank, part snowmobile and part high-tech remote-TV truck at the National Association of Broadcasters conference here.
