On May 17, 1999, in anticipation of the release of the first Star Wars prequel, Episode I: The Phantom Menace, pranksters at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) decorated the campus' Great Dome to look like the easily recognizable Star Wars droid R2D2.
