In addition to larger vendors with megabooths, lots of smaller companies offer everything from fans with flashing LEDs to power supplies, industrial motherboards and standard PC cases. Taiwan makes the lion's share of components consumers don't think much about. Companies there also manufacture most of the world's notebooks, although most have moved actual manufacturing facilities to China.
Overall, the mood at this year's show is muted, Brown says, with customers and media alike bemoaning the lack of anything new and exciting. "Maybe I'm being a little cynical," he writes, "but I seem to remember hearing the same refrain every time I've been to a trade show."
