Airbus' A380 superjumbo
Much of the early buzz at the show went to the commercial rivalry between Boeing and Airbus, both of which have been heavily promoting two marquee aircraft. For Airbus, it's the A380 superjumbo, seen here; it's due to go into service with Singapore Airlines in October. The European company also touted contracts for another, smaller airliner, the A350 XWB, which is scheduled to make its commercial debut in 2013.

For Boeing, the attention-getter these days is the 787 Dreamliner, the first of which is set to emerge from the factory on July 8; the plane is expected to make its entry into service in 2008.
